This natural path recovers for the use of walkers and cycling the layout of the old Palazuelo-Astorga railroad, put into service throughout its route (347.5 km) in July 1896 (although there were previously inaugurated sections) and closed to traffic since January 1, 1985 in the plasence-astorga section (330.8 km).
Description of Vías Verdes
Following the footprints of the Astorga Railroad - Plasencia better known as the "Railroad of the Vía de la Plata", which enters us on a way to enjoy spectacular places such as the Protected Galician Castañar landscape in the town of Hervás or through the idyllic landscape that runs halfway through the skirts of the Sierra de Béjar, declared, reserve of the biosphere. This third route on the old Plasencia-Astorga railroad leaves a good number of attractions between the provinces of Cáceres and Salamanca as it crosses a leafy and very diverse territory.
